The meeting is next Monday, January 17th, at 7pm in the church lounge. I'm looking for volunteers...
Setup: we'll need some extra hands available before the meeting (around 6:20pm) to help setup/decorate.
Refreshments: I don't have any specific ideas, but I tend to like just doing "finger foods". So something sweet (cookies, cupcakes, or brownies...around 6 dozen?), a cheese and crackers tray (or cheese dip), and fruit and/or veggies should cover it. Coffee, lemonade, water. Also we'll need paper products (plates, napkins, cups).
Decorations: I really don't have any brilliant ideas on this. Jill's theme is "Real Moms, Real Jesus", so I thought maybe we could bring framed photos of you with your moms/as a mom/multi-generational mom photos. If anyone has any additional ideas, I'm all ears!
Devotional Reader: We need someone to volunteer to read a short devotion, followed by a prayer to close the meeting. The devotion doesn't need to be lengthy at all (1-2 minutes), and you can pick out whatever you'd like to read. Devotions can be found online, upperroom.org, or in magazines in the UMW reading section at church. Depending on how much time is left at the end of the meeting, we could then pass around our prayer request bowl, or if it's getting late, just wrap up with a short prayer.
Donations: Jill doesn't charge a fee for speaking, but does accept an honorarium. If everyone could bring $2, we'd have something to give her for her time and effort, and to let her know how much we appreciate her.
Childcare: Since I'm hoping this meeting is going to attract young women outside of our group, I'm going to arrange to have childcare available. This does, however, worry me a bit, since I don't really know if it will be needed (and I feel really bad about having childcare workers come out and then have to turn around and go home). So if anyone knows they will be using childcare, please let me know.
I think that's everything. Please comment to this post to sign up for refreshments, help, devotional reader, etc.
Hope to see you next Monday, and please let me know if you have any questions!
Janet
